Quote #1:
"Mira, Hijo.... Look son. . . . , She begins.
Enrique cuts her off. 'All you do is yap, yap, yap! You keep sticking your nose into things that are are none of your business!' he tells her. She treats him as if he were still the infant she left behind. Didn't he fend for himself growing up? Didn't he hop freight trains across Mexico?
'Shut up. Leave me in peace!'
WHO SPEAKS: Lourdes tries to speak. But Enrique interupts.
PAGE: 200 4th paragraph
Significance:
If he was going to find his mom just to yell at her and tell her off for leaving him and his sister in Honduras then he shouldn't have even come. He should have stayed. The significance of this quote is that Enrique s finally with his mom and he is treating her badly.... didn't he say he loved her or is he too drunk and high to realize it. I can't believe he traveled all that way just to see his mom and make her feel guilt for leaving. I think that she shouldn't have left... if she wouldv'e stayed he wouldn't of had become what he is and he'd still have both his parents. Then again Lourdes only took the risk of coming to the U.S to help her children... and Enrique pays her with yelling, shouldn't he be thanking her.... and shouldn't Lourdes at least say sorry. I don't know but both people have reason to be mad at eachother.
Character Judgement:
Enrique I think went to far... I mean I understand why he's mad and has all these mixed emotiions about Lourdes but he should at least listen to her and hear what she has to say before yelling at her and not knowing what she went through too. Enrique loves and hates Lourdes at the same time, and I think that since he's so confused about everything even becoming a dad to Katerin [Maria Isabel and his daughter] that he drowns himslef with drugs and alcohol. It seems like he's just sick of everything and everyone. Also I think he's one of those kids that get jelous when your parents have another baby. He's mad that Lourdes had Diana [His half sister] at the wrong time. Enrique I think should go back to Honduras and if he wants forget his mom and not have to frusterate himself about her.
Question #1:
Would you hate your mom if she abandoned you?
Quote #2:
"Your broken, ruined. A drug addict! Why did you even come here? To finish screwing yourself up?
Enrique curses.
'Your a disgrace. Get your act together! Instead of seeing you this way, I wish God would take you from me!'"
WHO SPEAKS: Lourdes
PAGE: 211
Significance:
I knew it, he was going to get caught sooner or later. But its the exact thing I was talking about on my first quote ...kind of. He [Enrique] should have just stayed if he was just going to turn worse by coming to the U.S. I feel bad for Lourdes, but this here just made the book alot more better and also more interesting. Also Enrique has a roomate with him which is his moms boyfriends son who also drinks and smokes.. so he's been doing all that more now... since he has a companion to join him.
Character Judgement:
Lourdes should kick him out immediatly before Enrique gets Diana to do all that. I mena with two of them in the house it'll be easier to convince. Or they should send both the boys to like rehab or something. Or they should send both of them back to Honduras. Enrique can go and see his family and then maybe the other kid can either stay in the U.S with his dad or also join Enrique back to Honduras and live there.
Question:
If you were a parent would you send your child to rehab?

Quote #1:
ReplyDeleteWoahhh. I haven't gotten that far into the book; but the book is getting better and better. That really struck me; when Enrique was trying to cross he will talk about hugging his mom & telling her he loved her. But now that she's there with him. He doesn't treat her as he said he will. He falls into drugs again & his mom moved to North Carolina becase L.A was to much like Honduras, drugs and gangs everywhere. Good job, you're significance is real good my significance would have been the same as yours; it is exactly what I think.
Response #2:
I wouldn't hate my parents. For me hate is like death; a very bad thing. I would be frustrated: wanting to know why they left. I will probably find something or someone to blame. I wouldn't be so mad either if they left for us. So my ansewer will be a no; I would just be frustrated.
Quote#1:
Lourdes is getting mad. I couldn't believe she will say that she will like god to take Enrique away. That is unbelivable she always talked about how much she missed him and how he wished he was with her. Maybe Diana did change Enrique. He may be jealous. Lourdes I think now knows that her son needs help. He is also desperated & depressed because he is going to be a father.
Response #2:
I will. If my child needs help badly I will definatly send them to rehab. Drugs can change your life forever even worst can kill you. I will want them to have a happy life without a need of drugs. I wouldn't think twice for sending my son to rehab. If he opposed to go then I will talk to him & to the person to help him & have him go to rehab.
