Quote #1:
"Life in Glorias house has turned tense."

2 paragraphs and then...

"She has to get away from Enrique's sisters and aunts. Slowly, she has come to hate them. 'I can't take it anymore," she tells Gloria.

PAGE: 212 WHO SPEAKS: The Narrater and ... Maria Isabel

Significance:
I have only made posts speaking of Enriques Journey but back home in Honduras his wife/ girlfriend has to take care of their 1 and 1/2 year old with aunts and sisters or family memebers of Enrique who are always spying on her- to check if she is taking care of the baby, where she goes. They're everywhere and Maria Isabel is tired of it. Enrique probably thinks she is over reacting since he is always drunk. A family member of Enrique told him that Maria Isabel took bad care of Jasmin their daughter and that she always left the house , and that the money that Enrique sent Maria Isabel was sending to her mom. The family also said things like the baby isn't being fed well thats why its so skinny and that Maria Isabel stoppped breatfeeding her and that that could be why Jasmin always looks sick. They said many more things and Maria Isabel is tired of it - she does take care of Jasmin but living in house like Glorias makes her effort of keeping Jasmin clean very not going to happenish - there's mud in the back yard and the doors always open for air. The inside of the house is filled with Glorias kids and neighbor playing and running around who sometimes bump into little Jasmin. All that is why Maria Isabel is taking her and her daughter to Isabels moms hut house where she will be away from all of Enriques family. Also her younger sister and mom will help take care of Jasmin.

Character Judgement:
I think that with a family of Enriques Maria Isabels desicion is like the best option. And now maybe Jasmin will stop looking sick and dirty. The only bad thing about what she chose to do is that now since she is further away from Enriques family and she left them no adress of where she will be moving they might tell Enrique that as family they have a right to see Jasmin. Then Enrique might come back to Honduras and take Jasmin away from Maria Isabel. I wouldn't be shocked if he did I mean after what he's done so far he's pretty much capable of anything. Also he has mentioned that if he hears another complaint from his family about Maria Isabel bad mothering that he will take care of Jasmin himself... which I really doubt. I mean if she's a bad mother then that makes Enrique like fifteen times as bad of a father.

Questions:
Has anyone ever judged you the wrong way?
Where do you think its best the Jasmin stays? With who [like with her mom or dad]?

Quote #2:
"She does not look back. She never tells her she is going to the United States."

1 paragraph.

"Jasmin waves both hands and calls out, 'Adios, mami. Adios, mami. Adios, mami. Adios, mami."

WHO SPEAKS: Jasmin
PAGE: 240 2nd paragraph.

Significance:
Maria Isabel is leaving she is going to the United States. She is doing the same thing Lourdes did. Maria Isabel didn't tell Jasmin where she is going. Jasmin is three and a half years old... obviously she is too young to understand the real reason why Maria Isabel was crying and too young to hear loud whispering converstaions between her mom and a fmaily member of her trip to the United States, and the smuggler. If Enrique and Isabel don't come back before Jasmin notices she's gone for real she will probably hate both her parents for leaving her. Enrique's already a stranger and if Maria Isabel stays there for too long she'll forget her. But I think that both Jasmins parents will come back soon, with two people trying to save money together thwy'll be quicker to saving their desired amount.

Character Judgement:
I don't think that the Narrator showed the scene where Maria Isabel left Jasmin right. Even a three year old can feel when something is going to happen and notice that your mom/dad is trying to leave with out you noticing. I actually have a personal connection to this part. I have a three year old brother and whenever my mom tries to leave with 0ut him noticing its half impossible. He stares at her and then my mom says," Distract him or take him to my room and turn on the T.V." Things that will make him turn around and not notice her leaving. So I do that but then he hears the door slam and he knows she is gone. Also when my mom is saying those words my brother turns and looks at everone in the room and he runs to my mom and holds her by the leg. So I don't think Jasmins like that beacuase she would've noticed but my brother has like mom/dad senses or something.

Questions:
Have you ever had to stall or distract some one?
Had the person noticed why you were distracting them?
