Journal #4

Chapters 10-12
Perspective of Jem

Dear Diary,
Scout needs to realize that I am growing up, and that she needs to act more like a girl. She needs to loose the overalls and wear dresses or somethin'. What she wore to church was alright. She only put that on though thanks to Calpurnia's help. If Scout doesn't do something about her clothes she will be in alot of peril, I mean will she ever get married looking unlady like. I don't want to contradict her, but she leaves me with no choice... I have to admit Aunt Alexandra was right. Speaking of Aunt Alexandra yesterday when Scout, Calpurnia and me were coming from church I saw her sitting on the swing waiting for us. I think she is going to stay with us and until Atticus is back or if not just to help him... she wants us to grow up right. But Aunt Alexandra and I are aren't of the same contemporaries , I'm twelve and Cal calls me Mister Jem.... just in case she tries bosssing me around she can forget it because I think I'm old enough to know what I'm doing.

Poor Scout she's the one who'll suffer. I wish I had time to help her but I've just got so much in my mind that I don't think I will. Also serves her some good, maybe she'll grow up and stop acting like a small boy.... know that I brought up the word boy- I've got the Ewell family in my head, ever since there boy went to only one day of school. Then know Tom Robbinsons is accused of raping Mr. Bob Ewell's girl. I am cantankerous of Tom being accused..I think now, that he 's innocent - he didn't rape that girl....Only reason why I think this is because when you talk about the Ewells you immediatly have to go against them- if your in your right mind.... Scout doesn't know what rape is.... she asked Calpurnia but she said its better if Scout asks Atticus, I agree. That is if Atticus doesn't come... I'll tell Scout..her options are me and Aunt Alexandra. Anyways I think Scout and I've had a long day today... I mean church was just so diffrent compared to the whites church, they didn't have hymn books, and they were donating money for Helen [Tom Robinson's wife with three children]. At first I thought it be best if scout and I go because of that lula lady, good thing is Reverand Skykes was glad we were there and so we stayed.

When Atticus comes I'm going to tell him what the church people say about him, and how different they do things at their church and how they talk too. Calpurnia semed like a wholoe different person when she used her second language, she knew better than that but said that the kind of talk she used with her neighbors and church. When Cal gave scout 'n me the 2 dimes I felt bad and wanted her to keep them but she said we were her company. Either way I p0ut in two dimes into the jar, and so did scout. I still have this warm good feeling about dropping money into the can, maybe because it was going to a lady names Helen who needed it more then me. Good night, Atticus hope you come tomorrow.... I have alot to tell you. For now I'll just have to go to sleep and stay inaudible around Aunt Alexandra ['especially].

  1. Claudia. All of your posts are well done and very detailed. I think the only thing that you should do is look over your post and make sure that everything that needs to be capitalized is. That's the only thing. Great job!
